Dear Friends & Neighbors of Irvington Counseling Collective, Writing to so many beautiful souls across Indiana and beyond–individuals who have supported our work in countless ways–is a privilege, though a daunting one. We find ourselves navigating a time where the need for security and care feels urgent, not only for ourselves but also for those around us, including people we may never meet who face tremendous challenges. Amid this, a question rises in our collective hearts: “How can I help?” I, too, find myself searching for answers to this question. One of my teachers, Ram Dass, beautifully reminds us: “When someone feels particularly isolated or in pain, we don't need a great deal of information in order to come to their aid. The question, ‘How can I help?’ is a powerful tool for opening your heart to the needs of others.” Perhaps the answer lies in starting exactly where someone in need exists. Sometimes, that person is us—needing to tend to our own hearts with care. At other times, when our hearts overflow, we turn to our neighbors, extending compassion and connection. By focusing on what is within our reach—our circle of influence—and by caring deeply for one another, we discover a way forward, even in the most challenging times. At Irvington Counseling Collective, we believe the work we do in the therapy room is inherently connected to the political, social, and environmental fabric of our world. Like you, we face uncertainties about what the days ahead will bring—how external forces might shape the resources we can secure or the ways we can serve. And yet, we hold steadfast to our commitment: to increase access to care, to celebrate every individual who walks through our door, and to cultivate a space where diverse expressions of humanity are honored. Nkosi Johnson’s words that he spoke at age twelve, just prior to his death, serve as a guiding light: “Do all you can with what you have, in the time you have, in the place you are.” These words remind us of the profound power within our small corner of influence here at Irvington Counseling. We are committed to ensuring that we remain a place of refuge, care, and connection—a member of your circle of support, as we have always been and will continue to be. We are with you. Be Well,
